The X-Files Season 8, Episode 3: Patience

Still no. Also, what the hell is going on in this episode anyway?

So now David Duchovny isn't even in the credits any more. It's apparently the Scully and Doggett show, and it seems the change is more or less permanent? This isn't what I signed up for!

One thing I do like that could prove interesting is that Doggett is clearly not meant as a replacement for Mulder. He's actually a replacement for Scully, while Scully is the replacement for Mulder. I'm somewhat OK with that, actually, because it's about time Scully stopped being quite so obnoxiously skeptical all the time. So now she's the believer and Doggett is the skeptic.

But there are only two seasons left, so I'm not really sure there's enough time to develop that, and I still miss the usual dynamic between Mulder and Scully, but now that Mulder's out of the credits, I don't expect we'll see him again any time soon, so I guess I'll just have to get used to this.

Doggett isn't as interesting as Mulder. We don't know his entire background yet, but he just seems a little too serious. Mulder had a kind of playful silly side that came out a lot with Scully, but Doggett just doesn't seem to have that in him. Though to be fair, he hasn't really been around long enough for me to have any kind of significant opinion about him. Right now, he's just there.

Maybe this episode's title is trying to tell me something, but I'm getting tired of waiting for it, whatever it is supposed to be.

And that's because this episode was kind of pointless. They were looking for a bat man, but not Batman? And there weren't even any references to Batman? I am disappoint.

And beyond that, we didn't get the usual scientific background information for why such a creature would even exist. That apparently wasn't the point of the story. There was no mystery, no real X-File, just a differently evolved bat-like creature that was attacking people. And they didn't solve the 'case' and they didn't actually end the threat. The bat thing is still out there.

I'm guessing it's not exactly going to become season eight's big bad.

Other than that? Yeah, I don't think it's worth wasting too much space on this episode.
