New beginning?

And you thought this blog was dead!

The X-Files is coming back to television!

I am so excited for this. I especially like that it's a limited, six episode run, though presumably if it does well, there'll then be talk of extending it into a full series.

But for now, six episodes will give them the space to tell a concise and tight story. And given the changes to television in general between 2002 and now, I'm expecting more serialisation and continuity than the original series had, even if they do extend it to a full 'tenth' season of the show.

I'm not sure how the comics (which I am so far behind on) will fit in to this, and I really hope they ignore the second movie, too, because that was crap. I'd even be fine with them saying seasons eight and nine weren't canon and restart after Mulder's abduction. Revive the Lone Gunmen, undo William's entire existence, pretend John Doggett doesn't exist (though we'd then also have to pretend Scully never threw a cup of water on him), maybe try and find a way to at least bring Monica Reyes back because she was cool at least, and bring the Cigarette Smoking Man back for one last conspiracy.

Either way, this is some of the best TV news I've heard since Supernatural got renewed for an eleventh season.

This blog will obviously have to change somewhat, since I'm not binging the show, but I'll be watching in real time, discovering all the twists and turns at the same time as everyone else watching it. That's pretty exciting, too, since I didn't get to experience that when the series first aired.

So, welcome back. I probably won't post much (read: at all) over the summer, and I still prefer to avoid spoilers, but posting will resume when the first new episode airs.
